SEDATION OPTIONS
We are pleased to offer two types of Conscious sedation.
Nitrous Oxide: This form of conscious sedation is commonly referred to as "laughing gas". It is a combination of two gases, nitrogen and oxygen. When inhaled through a small rubber inhaler placed over the nose, it is absorbed by the body and has a calming effect. You will smell a sweet, pleasant aroma and experience a sense of wellbeing and relaxation. You are permitted to leave the dental office unescorted and may resume your normal activities immediately. This form of sedation is highly effective in the management of mild to moderate levels of dental anxiety. It is also excellent for persons who gag easily.
*Only $66 per appointment
Halcion: This form of conscious sedation is commonly referred to as the "little blue pill" or the "happy pill". This Oral Medication used for Oral Conscious Sedation in dentistry is from a group of drugs known as Benzodiazapines. Not only do these medications have a sedative effect, they also have some degree of amnesic effect for most people. With this approach, anxious patients take a Halcion about 1 hours before their dental appointment to help them relax. When a patient gets to the office, the dentist may give more pills, depending on how sedated the patient is. Patients remember little of nothing about their dental appointment. People for whom Halcion has worked well describe it as a "working wonder", as giving a calming and relaxing effect, or as making you feel "out of it". Giddiness, confusion and saying silly things are also common. Halcion may make you forget large parts of what happened whole you were under their influence, which can be handy if you don't want to remember your dental appointment. Through this technique has been promoted as a way to "sleep through your dental appointment", patients are not actually asleep. They can still respond to a dentist's questions and commands but aren't likely to remember any of it. You must have someone escort you to and from your dental visit and you will need to plan on going home and sleeping for the remainder of your day.
